DIY Holiday Message Plate: Wipe-Off Decorative Sign for Seasons

I was searching for something tall to place on my buffet — something shorter than my lamp but taller than the pitcher I might later fill with greenery. I remembered the easel that came with my DaySpring message board, which I didn’t need after I hung the board on the wall.

But what should go on the easel?

In a moment when I wanted a quick solution, I grabbed one of my inexpensive holiday chargers (likely plastic or lightweight metal) and propped it on the easel.

I thought a vinyl cling with a holiday word would be ideal, but I didn’t have one on hand. Then I remembered my chalkboard pens and wondered if they would work on the charger. They did — the pen wrote smoothly, created a crisp holiday message, and wiped off easily when I wanted a new phrase.

This is a fast, low-effort decorating trick that gives the appearance of a custom piece. A vinyl cling would be a nice upgrade for a more permanent look, but the chalk pen is perfect for quick seasonal changes or when you just want to switch up the greeting.

The result reminded me of chalkboard chargers, but without any painting required. These chalk pens are a handy tool for temporary messages — they worked wonderfully on this charger, and the inexpensive nature of the plate made the gamble easy.

Total cost: Free (if you already have a chalk pen and a plate).
Total stress: None.
