Rattan Daybed Ideas for a Cozy Guest Room Remodel

Yesterday marked the official start of fall, but I’ve been feeling the season for weeks. We’ve been deep in packing at our Seattle house this week—if you caught my Instagram stories, you know the house is pending sale. Saying goodbye to a home we loved has been bittersweet, but it also feels right. I’ll share more about that transition in a future post.

Before listing the house, we made one change that made me so happy. Years ago we bought a rattan daybed and it originally sat in our living room—our dog loved it as a lookout to the yard. I always imagined it in the small guest room and hoped we’d move it there eventually. For a long time that room had a queen bed to accommodate visiting family, which made the most sense for our needs.

After rearranging the living room, the daybed moved into my son’s room when he returned home from college in 2020. It became his bed until he moved out again. While preparing the house for sale, I finally had the chance to move the daybed into the small guest room. My husband and I carried it through the hallway—an adventure that almost didn’t work—but once it was in place, it looked exactly as I’d pictured.

We always decorate our home with practicality first, keeping our family’s everyday life in mind. I don’t arrange rooms just for photos; what you see here reflects how we actually lived and what worked for us.

I’m thinking of sharing a full tour of the house as it was staged for sale. We took a lot of photos and I’d love to show the rooms and the little details we adjusted for staging. Would you like to see that? I’ll put the post together when I can squeeze it in between packing boxes.

By the way, Serena & Lily is running a big sale where I bought this daybed and several statement pieces in our home. I’m also picking up a few items from there for our new house and I can’t wait to share those updates.
