So, it finally happened — I painted my front door. It only took about an hour to cover the door, but it felt like a big step after months of indecision and procrastination. Choosing a color, waiting for the right weather and convincing myself to stop making excuses stretched the project out far longer than it should have. Still, I’m thrilled to have begun.
This is progress rather than a finished reveal. I have another coat to apply and trim around the door to complete, so it’s a work in progress rather than an after photo. I know it isn’t perfect yet and my husband will probably roll his eyes at the messy photos, but this is how real projects often look — imperfect and underway.
On blogs it can feel like spaces move instantly from “before” to “after,” but in our home updates tend to be gradual. I try to celebrate the small wins and appreciate the momentum of progress, even when the final reveal is still a ways off.

I’m glad I took the step. I didn’t want to face another winter with a front door that felt uninspired, so I challenged myself and painted it WYTHE BLUE by Benjamin Moore. The color immediately lifted the entry and made the space feel more welcoming.
Here’s a quick look at how the door looked for the past couple of years.

It was a fine door but needed refreshing. We had sanded it some time ago and that’s where the project stalled until now.
How did I choose Wythe Blue? I noticed a similar blue in a new rug inside the front door. I like creating a color flow through the house, and at the moment I’m using a palette of grays and blues to tie rooms together. The blue in the rug, my maps and artwork made Wythe Blue an obvious match for the entry. Outside, the grayish stone on the house complements blue tones nicely, so the color made sense from both inside and out.

After comparing my paint options, Wythe Blue felt like the right choice. This shade is versatile and looks beautiful with seasonal decor — from fall wreaths to Christmas accents and spring florals — so it will work year-round. You can have the color matched in your preferred paint brand if you prefer a different manufacturer.
Below is a side-by-side comparison of the door before and after the first coat.

A subtle change, but a noticeable lift. The entry feels fresher and more inviting.
