I truly enjoy intentional, meaningful entertaining. I like to create an atmosphere where thoughtful details are considered and pretty tables are set. The house is tidied up and guests feel welcomed, but the setting is never intimidating or overly formal. For me, the purpose of entertaining isn’t to perform or impress — it’s to create space for genuine connection and good conversation.
Here are four essentials I always keep in mind when hosting:
1. Pretty Centerpieces.
Whether I use items I already have or put together something seasonal, I always set the table with a centerpiece that feels thoughtful and beautiful. It helps anchor the meal and makes the gathering feel special without being fussy.
2. Eclectic Mix of Dishes.
I don’t own a single complete set of matching dishes, and I like it that way. Mixing styles and patterns keeps things informal and relaxed. I collect versatile white pieces that pair well with just about anything, and then add a few seasonal or colorful plates for interest. Displaying favorite dishes on shelves or in cabinets makes them part of the home’s personality, not just something used for one night.
3. Tasty Food.
I’m not a professional chef, but I love good food and sharing it with others. Choosing a simple theme or featuring a few favorite dishes can make even an easy menu feel memorable. Food brings people together and helps create moments that linger in memory.
4. A Festive Mood.
A welcoming, festive mood helps guests relax and enjoy themselves. Small touches — music, lighting, and thoughtful pacing — set the tone for conversation and connection and make the time together feel celebratory.
The LoveFeast shop offers many beautiful items that inspire simple, elegant entertaining. Some pieces I adore are the plush velvet or linen pumpkins, the large wine barrel lid platter that’s both useful and well made, the Fiddle Bow Knife, and the handcrafted ceramic dishes featured in the photos below. Those handcrafted plates are the sort of pieces I’d gladly add to my collection for everyday use or display.

They would look beautiful on open shelves or arranged on a wall as part of a display.

Right now the LoveFeast shop offered a seasonal shopping credit to one lucky reader. Their curated home decor and entertaining selections are full of pieces that bring warmth and personality to a table or room.
To enter, please tell me in the comments about one of your most memorable gatherings (that you’ve hosted or attended!).

PS. I also did an interview with LoveFeast for their blog recently, where I talked about home and entertaining — it was a fun conversation and a nice complement to the ideas I’ve shared here.
