Rattan Daybed: Cozy Window Corner for Relaxing Views

The Inspired Room - Rattan Daybed

When we first found our house and began planning the living room, we pictured a window bench along one wall. As the design evolved, we decided a freestanding daybed would be more versatile—providing extra seating, a cozy place for naps and reading, and an occasional guest bed for visiting family.

The room’s standout feature is its large windows that flood the space with light and offer a view of the backyard and Puget Sound. To make the view part of the room’s atmosphere, we moved the main seating area away from the fireplace and toward the center of the space so the windows could be enjoyed from multiple vantage points.

The room is a comfortable size—not too small, not too large. Centering the smaller-scale sofas creates room to move around while keeping the arrangement cozy and inviting.

For now, we positioned a small linen wingback sofa we already owned to face the windows and placed the leather sofa facing the fireplace. This layout balances both focal points—the view and the hearth. An angled chair by the fireplace and the new daybed complete the conversation area.

Bamboo blinds will be installed above the windows; when raised they won’t block the view, but they will add texture and definition to the window frames.

I love that the daybed sits close enough to feel part of the seating arrangement while also offering a spot to relax separately from conversations. In winter it will be the coziest place by the fire.

We wanted a daybed that didn’t read as a formal bed or a heavy sofa. It needed to feel airy so it wouldn’t block the room, while still appearing grounded in the corner.

When we found this rattan daybed, it felt like the right fit. The rattan brings a relaxed, island-inspired texture that suits the house and complements our existing furniture. It’s open and light visually, yet sturdy and well-built.

We waited anxiously for delivery, with a backup plan to place the daybed downstairs if it didn’t work here. Thankfully, it was perfect in the living room.

The brass and glass side tables we moved from the old family room tuck nicely beside the fireplace and now serve as a bright spot for plants. Plants bring life to the space, and these should thrive in the sunny corner.

I relocated the fiddleleaf fig to the other side of the fireplace for the summer, where it should be just as content.

We used large Euro shams and pillows we already owned, adding a few new throws to make the daybed extra cozy. The result is an attractive, welcoming spot to relax.

Jack and Lily immediately claimed the daybed, which is unsurprising—it’s perfectly suited to long naps and bird-watching by the window. We keep extra sheets and pillowcases on hand to make cleaning easy, since the pups and guests will both use this spot.

Once we paint the room (still on the to-do list) we’ll share updated views and some botanicals we plan to hang. The bamboo shades are ordered and should help finish the space; we’ll continue layering and updating over time. Thanks for following along!
