Laundry Room Refresh: Say Goodbye to Stubborn Stains

Laundry Room Progress - White Paint

Ladies, I’m happy to report that the old swine-colored paint has finally been removed from another room in our home. Our laundry room has been largely overlooked in terms of design since we bought this house. There was nothing terrible about it — it functioned well and served its purpose — but the pinkish paint made it feel dated. It was time for a refresh.

We focused on a few key updates: replacing the fluorescent light, addressing the less-than-pleasant laundry sink (more on that below), and repainting the walls. Because the room is small, we decided a clean white palette would be the best backdrop to make the space feel brighter and more open. This refresh is mostly paint and a few thoughtful changes rather than a full renovation, so it was an easy project that will make a noticeable difference.

My husband sanded and painted the cabinets last week, and they now wear a crisp coat of white (Dove White—Benjamin Moore formula in Glidden paint). The white cabinets help the room read larger and cleaner. We’ll likely update the cabinet hardware another time, but for now the original pulls will do the job and save us some money.

Green Barnlight Electric FlushmountOur new light fixture has arrived and is ready to install. We chose the Wallaby Flush Mount from Barn Light Electric in a vivid emerald green to introduce a fun pop of color and personality to the otherwise white space. The photo above was edited when we were deciding on colors, so the shade may look slightly different in person, but it gives the general idea. I’m not a fan of fluorescent lights, and with a large window that brings in plenty of natural light, switching to a pleasing flush mount will make the room feel warmer and more inviting.

The green fixture will serve as a focal point and add charm to our simple laundry room. I’m excited to see how that small detail elevates the space once it’s hung.

For those who haven’t seen the before photos, here’s a reminder of how the laundry room looked for years (minus the piles of laundry). It was serviceable but uninspired.

Inspiring, right?

Laundry Room Before

Our laundry room sits on the second level near the bedrooms, which I love — it makes keeping up with laundry much easier than having it in a basement. After years of hauling laundry up and down, having it on the sleeping level feels like a small luxury.

The Laundry Room Before

Now for the sink reveal. It’s a good example of why a refresh is needed. The sink shows paint splatters and wear from years of painting projects around the house. Rather than spending a lot of time trying to remove paint from this basic, inexpensive sink, we’ve decided to replace it with a clean, functional unit next week. It won’t be fancy, but it will be fresh and practical — exactly what this room needs.

We also plan to hang an ironing board on the opposite wall near a small white glass cabinet where we keep cleaning supplies. These small organizational changes, along with the paint and lighting swap, will make the space more pleasant and easier to use.

How much “swine” is left in the house? A few closets and our master bathroom still wear that color. The closets can wait, but the master bathroom is next on the list for a new coat of paint. I won’t miss the old color one bit.

I’ll post another update once the new sink and light are installed. For now, the fresh cabinets and the promise of a green flush mount are already making the laundry room feel brighter and more inviting.
