Life Lately: Dogs, Moving, and Our Growing Pack

Wait—did I really say I was becoming an empty nester a year and a half ago? Apparently not for long. In the past year, both my human and furry kids have moved back in at various times. I thought I’d experience the quiet of an empty nest, but other than a few brief weeks it’s been busier and more chaotic than I expected. And honestly, I’m grateful for every bit of it.

Family is everything to me, so I’ve loved having everyone around. My son came home from his dorm when colleges sent students home last spring and decided to stay since his school is nearby and most of his classes are online. Courtney lived in our basement apartment for a while and recently moved into a lovely apartment in a nearby town. Having them close has been a joy.

Our newest household additions are a little furry and irresistible. My daughter Kylee’s puppy Bella lived with us for the first couple of months after she was born, because Kylee and Lance were in the middle of a move. Now Bella, her fur brother Leo, and Kylee and Lance are staying with us while they search for their first house. They sold their townhouse in Seattle and are excited—if a bit stressed—about buying a home in this competitive market. We’re thrilled for them and happy to offer a temporary place while they look for the right spot.

I’ll share photos and a tour of the basement and lower-level spaces they’re staying in soon. We’ve turned those areas into comfortable living spaces for family visitors, and I’m excited to show how cozy and functional they are. For now, know we’re so happy to help them during this transition and hopeful they’ll find a home nearby.

I often post live updates about our daily life—fun moments, the unavoidable chaos, and little home projects—on Instagram and Facebook stories. I also share tips, ideas, and encouragement for home living there. If you follow along, I’d love to hear from you and connect about decorating, organizing, or family life.

I’ll be posting a full basement tour soon so you can see how we’ve set up the space for guests and family stays. We’re excited to help Kylee and Lance find a new home and can’t wait to see where they land.
