Today I’m sharing four mood board ideas for a small bedroom project I’ll be working on this winter, featuring affordable, stylish finds from Walmart. These pieces are accessible and budget-friendly — perfect for seasonal updates. Thank you to Walmart for sponsoring this post.
For those of us who enjoy spending time at home, having a creative project to look forward to can make the colder months feel inviting instead of dreary. In my previous post I highlighted my favorite feature in our new bedroom and introduced the project I’m planning next.
I’m planning a few simple updates to our bedroom to help the space feel finished and cozy for winter. The goal is to make it feel personal and comfortable while keeping the option to refresh it again in spring.
Below are four mood boards we assembled for the room. Each one blends cozy winter elements with pieces that will transition easily into warmer months. All items shown were found at Walmart, making them easy to source and affordable.
Walmart has made seasonal decorating easy and enjoyable — their online selection is stylish and shipments are reliable, which is a huge plus. If you need something quickly, visiting a store in person is also convenient.
Scroll through the four mood boards and see which one speaks to you. Would you choose one as-is or mix and match elements from several? Find me on Instagram stories — I’d love to hear which items you like best. Sources for each mood board are listed below and in the product galleries.

Did you pick a favorite? What elements spoke to you?
I call these mood boards because they represent more than just a style — they capture how the room will feel. Visualizing the overall mood helps me decide which practical changes will lift the everyday experience of the space through every season.
I enjoy experimenting with colors, patterns and accessories, and sometimes combining different styles until a combination feels right. The mood of a room is influenced not only by decor but also by the room’s features and what’s happening in life, so it’s fun to bring those elements together.
If you want a fresh mood in a room, try shopping your home first to rearrange pieces, add a few seasonal accents, or experiment with new art and textiles. Small changes like throws, pillows, lamps and rugs can completely shift the feeling of a space.
I plan to mix new items from these mood boards with pieces we already own to create a collected look — a mix of vintage, handed-down and new finds that reflect our life and needs.
Make your own mood boards with physical materials like poster board or with digital tools such as Pinterest. Use whatever method inspires you — creating mood boards can be an enjoyable winter activity that helps you clarify a vision for your space.
I’ll share updates on the bedroom after the holidays and show how these mood board ideas come together in the finished room.
If you enjoy simple ideas for living well at home throughout the seasons, I also talk about that in my new book, A Lovely Life, coming this spring.
I hope you enjoyed these mood board ideas as much as we enjoyed creating them. Tell me which board you liked best or how you’d mix elements to create a look that inspires you!
