Fresh as a daisy! Aren’t these daisy sheets absolutely charming? They’re perfect for summer and look delightful on my new-to-me bed.

After resting against our living room fireplace for four weeks, the Ethan Allen Quincy bed we found on Facebook Marketplace finally made it up the stairs to our bedroom this weekend, thanks to some helpers we hired to carry it in.

I love it! When I was a kid I used to keep new shoes by my bed so I could see them as I fell asleep. Did you do that too? Now I fall asleep in a beautiful new bed and wake up smiling in my daisy sheets.

Now that the bed is in place we’ll likely update bedside tables and lamps, repaint a wall or two, and make a few small refinishes to complete the look. Still, this whole turn of events has me so happy.

Some people search for months or even years to find a specific piece. I found my dream bed on the very first search. I hadn’t planned to buy a bed right then, but it felt meant to be. Serendipity—I probably should start searching more often.

You can read my first post about finding the bed on the original post.

Minutes before I searched Facebook Marketplace, I had shown my husband this exact bed on the Ethan Allen website while making a mood board for our home. We agreed the robin’s egg blue was the perfect shade. Then I thought, why not search FBMP? I typed “Quincy Bed Ethan Allen” and there it was—my robin’s egg blue bed.

Even after the seller messaged back to say we could pick it up, I knew it wouldn’t be simple. The bed was in Canada, and we don’t own a truck. That was only the start of the challenges.

Many readers asked for the rest of the story and the mishaps we faced, so here’s what happened that I didn’t include in the original post.

So here is the rest of the story — for you, my curious friends.

First issue: we forgot to turn on roaming, so our phones lost map access the moment we crossed the border. Our rented U-Haul didn’t have built-in navigation either, and without our phones working we were temporarily lost. We wandered a bit looking for an ATM, only to find it closed, so we didn’t have Canadian cash to pay for the bed.

Not to be deterred, we headed to the seller’s house using step-by-step directions I’d saved—like the old days before smartphones. The seller didn’t speak much English, so we communicated with her daughter by phone. Initially the seller didn’t want to use PayPal, which would have been easiest, but after some discussion she agreed to set up an account so we could pay electronically.

Then we ran into another problem: we couldn’t disassemble the bed with the tools we brought. I started to worry we’d have to leave without it. We drove to Home Depot, bought the right tools, and returned—thankfully the seller waited and didn’t sell it to someone else while we were gone.

With the correct tools we finally took the bed apart. The headboard was extremely heavy, so the owner kindly helped carry it down her staircase. She stood on one side, I stood on the other, and my husband helped from the end. We’re not as young as we used to be, but we managed to get it into the truck.

Once the seller’s PayPal was set up, I transferred the funds and we loaded the bed into the truck. After a late lunch and a few more hours than planned, we crossed back over the border without incident. Officers asked about our trip and what we’d bought, and they inspected the truck briefly—nothing unusual besides one very happy purchase.

Would I go to this much trouble again for a Facebook Marketplace find? Maybe not every time. But our Quincy bed was worth the effort—if I discovered another piece I loved this much, I’d probably do it all over again. Though I wonder if sellers in Canada will take my calls after this adventure!

I’m thrilled to have this charming Quincy bed in our home. And if you’re looking for soft organic cotton sheets, these daisy sheets from Garnet Hill are lovely—I’m obsessed with their quilts as well.

Have you ever found a dream item on Facebook Marketplace? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
