Merry week after Christmas! I love this quiet, cozy week — it may be my favorite time of year. The busy rush of pre-Christmas is over and we can slow down: sit by the fire, nibble on treats and stay in pajamas all day. It’s the best.
This year we were gifted an extra special treat: a very white Christmas. Snow is rare where we live in the Pacific Northwest, so we savored every flake as we relaxed by the fire. It felt magical to enjoy a snowy holiday.
Below are photos we took around the house in the week before Christmas. If you prefer video, we shared a Christmas house tour this year, but these photos capture how the home looked as we settled in for the season. I’ll share a separate post with photos from our snowy Christmas, which truly was enchanting.

If you’re new here, welcome! I’ve been writing at The Inspired Room for many years. These photos are of our new home — we moved in this fall and were so happy to get cozy for Christmas. This house has been a dream come true, and I’ve shared more about the move and our plans in previous posts. We’re excited to make this little house our forever home and look forward to sharing the updates and projects ahead.

This season we didn’t photograph every room. With a recent move, settling in felt more important than decorating every space. Some years I share every room, other years I curate highlights — this year is the latter. Expect more posts as we reveal plans for the kitchen, dining room and potential additions, along with smaller updates to personalize the house for our family and my parents, who will also spend time here.

Welcome to the cozy spot we now call home.

One of the things we love most about this house is its location. We moved to a lovely island not far from our previous home in Seattle. The neighborhood has a charming, coastal feel with beautiful views of nearby islands and the sea — the kind of setting I’ve dreamed about. After a couple of challenging years, settling into this peaceful place feels like a true blessing.

Christmas blessings to you. If you’d like to see photos of our snowy white Christmas, I shared them in a separate post that captures the winter wonderland we enjoyed.
If you missed our Christmas house tour video this year, we uploaded a full tour you can watch for a walkthrough of the season’s decor.
