Turkish Towels: Cozy Fall Favorites (Day 7)

Turkish Towel as Tablecloth

Every fall I love layering my home decor as the air turns crisp. Adding soft textures and visual interest is one of my favorite seasonal rituals. You may have noticed a few extra layers in my rooms—Turkish towels draped over sofas, folded across a dining table, or casually arranged on chairs. Although Turkish towels are traditionally hand-woven for use in Turkish baths, I collect and style them for their versatility and aesthetic rather than for bathing.

Turkish Towel Over a Sofa - The Inspired Room

Turkish towels are lightweight, flat, and surprisingly durable—ideal for adding a touch of softness, color, or pattern anywhere in the home. They layer beautifully on sofas, chairs, footstools, and tables without bulk. I found many of mine at a local flea market, the same place where I discovered a new rattan bookshelf.

Turkish Style Towel in the Kitchen

I also keep a towel in the kitchen that has the same look and feel as a Turkish towel—perfect for styling open shelving or using as a decorative runner on a counter. These towels work well in kitchens because they are absorbent, dry quickly, and add pattern without overwhelming the space.

Creative ways to layer or display Turkish towels (beyond using them as towels):

– At the end of a bed to introduce pattern and texture

– As a lightweight picnic blanket for outdoor gatherings

– Draped over the edge of a bathtub to soften the bathroom look

– Hung on a wall as an inexpensive textile artwork

– Draped over a stair railing to add color and interest along a stairwell
