Beautify Your Space to Lift Your Mood and Energy

One of my favorite pastimes is puttering around the house. I mention it often because it’s something I genuinely enjoy. I may not be very crafty, but I can putter — and that’s fine. Embracing your own strengths makes everyday life more pleasant.

Puttering usually means wandering through the rooms, tidying a little here and there, and taking small moments to make things prettier. It’s simple, satisfying work that lifts my spirits.

Sometimes I don’t feel like it at all. I might want to hibernate under the covers, but even on those days I’ll make myself walk through the house and improve one small corner. Often that small effort turns my mood around.

Creating a prettier space can be as straightforward as reorganizing a drawer so it looks and functions better. I’ll often take out items I don’t like as much and arrange the things I do. A single drawer filled with items I love becomes a small daily pleasure I can actually use.

Why do we sometimes avoid using our pretty things and instead let clutter accumulate? We deserve to enjoy the things we love. Yes, dishes may get chipped over time — my husband has been known to chip a plate or two — but using and enjoying those items is far better than keeping them hidden away.

Your puttering can focus on any small area: kitchen counters, a hallway cabinet, a nightstand surface, a dish drawer, a bathroom shelf, a craft cupboard, or a linen closet. Collecting attractive containers or baskets can quickly hide less appealing items and bring cohesion to a space. Even ten minutes of attention can make a noticeable difference.

Make something pretty today, just for you. Then enjoy it — it will lift your mood and feel like a small gift to yourself.
