My New White Slipcovered Couch: Unboxing, Care & Style Tips

Okay, yesterday I did something I’d been thinking about for years. After weighing every option, I ordered a white slipcovered couch for our living room.

UPDATE! See the couch I chose and FAQ here.

Buying a couch felt surprisingly nerve-wracking. I tend to overthink big purchases, and this one came with lots of choices: cost, fabric, style, and how it would fit the room. I’d been eager to settle our living room design, and the sofa situation was the main thing holding me back.

Over the holidays I moved the downstairs sectional upstairs for the winter. It worked well and was super cozy, but we never meant for it to be a permanent solution. We still have a leather loveseat that I adore, which might stay in the living room, but it’s a bit small to serve as the only seating.

My hesitations were practical: price, fabric choice, and furniture placement. There are so many attractive options that landing on one felt like a big decision. Ironically, I’m working on a design Q&A book called But Where Do I Put The Couch? with a friend, and I could have used a few pointers from that book while choosing!

Despite the indecision, I finally made the purchase. The new white slipcovered couch is arriving in August, and now that the order is placed I’m genuinely excited.

I decided to follow my instincts. When there are many good options, you choose one and trust that it will all come together. I’ve long been a fan of white slipcovered sofas—there are pros and cons, and they aren’t for everyone—but they work beautifully for the relaxed, versatile look I like.

Years ago, when my kids were small, we bought a white slipcovered sofa secondhand and it lasted through kids and dogs. That sofa gave us good service until our puppies finally wore it out. After replacing it with a leather loveseat for a while, I missed the casual style and ease of a slipcover. I’m ready for another one.

I chose a slightly different shape this time but kept the same soft white denim fabric I loved before. The fabric was durable, washable, and soft—practical without feeling like a performance textile. They offer many fabrics including performance options, but I wanted the look and feel of the denim slipcover that worked well for us previously.

I sat in the sofa at the store and found it very comfortable. The deep seat feels inviting for curling up and getting cozy, which is exactly what I want for our living room. The regular depth would have worked too, but the deep seat in my chosen fabric suited my needs and style.

I’ll share more photos and details when the couch arrives. For those who might be hesitating, I wanted to say that sometimes you just need to pick a direction and trust it will work out. Choosing a sofa can feel overwhelming, but once it’s ordered the relief and excitement make it worthwhile.

If you’re curious about the specifics: I chose a slope-arm slipcovered sofa with a deep seat and a bench cushion, 80 inches long in Warm White Denim.

Do you struggle with furniture decisions, or am I the only one who agonizes over choices?
