Rattan Daybed Ideas: Create a Cozy Corner with a View

The Inspired Room - Rattan Daybed

When we first toured the house and began imagining the living room, we pictured a window bench along one side. As plans evolved, we decided a freestanding daybed would be more versatile—offering extra seating, a cozy spot for reading or napping, and even a guest bed for visiting family.

This room’s standout feature is the large windows that flood the space with light and frame views of the backyard and Puget Sound. To make the view part of the room’s atmosphere, we moved the main seating away from the fireplace and positioned it more toward the center, so the windows become part of the conversation area.

The room isn’t large nor small—just right. Centering the modest-scale sofas keeps the layout open to move through while maintaining a cozy, inviting feel.

For this arrangement, we placed a small linen wingback settee facing the windows and oriented the leather sofa toward the fireplace. This creates balance between the fireplace and the view. A chair angled near the hearth toward the windows and the new daybed complete the seating group.

Bamboo shades from Select Blinds will be installed above the windows; when raised they won’t block the view but will add texture and definition. They’ll be a finishing touch that helps tie the room together.

I love that the daybed sits close enough to be part of the furniture grouping but just outside the main cluster so someone can relax there while others chat. In winter, it will be the coziest spot near the fireplace.

We searched for a daybed that didn’t read too much like a traditional bed or a formal sofa. We wanted something airy so it wouldn’t feel like a barrier, yet substantial enough to anchor that corner of the room.

When we found this rattan daybed, it felt like the right fit. The rattan brings a timeless, island-inspired texture that complements the house’s architecture and our existing furnishings. It’s open and light visually, while still solid and well-made.

We waited with anticipation until delivery, ready with a backup plan to place it elsewhere if it didn’t suit the room. Thankfully, it was perfect and stayed in the living room.

The brass and glass tables from our previous family room fit nicely beside the fireplace and now serve as plant stands. Plants bring life to a room, and these will enjoy the sunny spot by the windows.

I moved the fiddle-leaf fig to the opposite side of the fireplace for the summer; it seems happy there soaking up light.

To make the daybed inviting, we used large Euro shams and pillows we already had, then added a few new throws and cushions. The result is both charming and comfortable—an appealing place to linger.

Jack and Lily immediately claimed the daybed as their spot. We keep extra sheets and pillowcases handy to make cleaning simple. The pups will enjoy naps and watching birds through the window—and we’ll enjoy sharing the space with them.

We’re still waiting to paint the room, but once that’s done we’ll share more updated angles. We’ve ordered bamboo shades and have botanical art to hang—little layers that will help finish the space. More updates coming—thanks for following along!
