It’s important to me that our home feels warm and inviting, while also reflecting the personalities of the people who live here. One of my favorite ways to add character is to introduce a small, unexpected touch to seasonal decor. I’ve always loved whimsical animal accents, so when I discovered a brass fox and rabbit I couldn’t resist adding them to our mantel display.
These pieces have appeared in various homes I’ve decorated before, so they felt like a natural fit here. They work beautifully during the holidays, but they’re also charming year-round. I like to change what’s inside their little bowls each season — Easter eggs in spring, fresh blooms in summer, seashells at the beach, pinecones and evergreens in winter. They’re light enough to move around the house and versatile enough to serve as bookshelf accents or bookends when needed.

Right now, this is what sits on our mantel as of Thanksgiving weekend: a touch of greenery, a few candles, a wood bead strand, some pinecones, a bell, and a little sparkle tucked into the bowls of the fox and rabbit. It’s simple but layered and continues to evolve. I may add a wreath to the mirror above the mantel or drape garland across it in the coming days. I might even swag the wood beads across the front. Even if I leave it as it is, it already feels festive and cozy.

What I love about decorating this way is the freedom to let things develop slowly over the season. You can always add more when inspiration strikes, and you can remove pieces if the space starts to feel crowded. Decorating doesn’t have to be all or nothing. A home that truly reflects you will grow and change with you and the seasons, so it remains a place that feels calm, comfortable, and personal.
