Thank you to Pottery Barn for gifting the beautiful pillows and throws in this post!

While we wait for our new rug and the remaining living room pieces (I can’t wait to share the final reveal!), I spent some time this week playing with cottage-style pillow pairings and a cozy new throw—perfect for spring and summer.

A few new pillows can change a room completely. Here I’ll show how I mix colors and charming patterns to refresh the space seasonally, using several new finds from Pottery Barn.

I’m absolutely loving our new sofa. Styling it has been so much fun—I’m excited to finish the room once the rest of the pieces arrive.

A classic stripe is incredibly versatile. It pairs easily with a wide range of colors and patterns, so you can create a different mood for each season. I’m already planning looks for fall and winter.

Pottery Barn has a really lovely selection of pillows and throws. They make it simple to build a collection you’ll enjoy mixing and matching year after year.

I couldn’t resist trying a few florals with the striped sofa for a soft, cottage-style feel.

Each pillow is lovely on its own, and every combination feels fresh and inviting. Many of these are reversible, which doubles the styling options.

Even in a smaller space, swapping pillows and a throw is an easy, low-effort way to refresh your decor for each season.

Sticking to a cohesive color palette while varying the scale of your patterns makes mixing and matching effortless. Add solid pieces for balance so you can create multiple looks throughout the year.

Pattern Mixing Design Tip

I love the linen pillow on the built-in bench that has soft white on one side and taupe on the other. The subtle reversibility makes it adaptable to different arrangements.

Seeing a patterned reverse peek out from the back of a pillow or the underside of a throw is such a charming detail. Reversible pieces add character and keep arrangements looking intentional even after being moved around.

They’re also practical—if pillows get shifted or tossed, a reversible design still looks put together.

I recently added a red floral pillow with a coordinating stripe on the reverse, which looks sweet on the dining bench. With two built-in benches now, I have plenty of places to style more pillows—expect more pairings soon.

Happy spring decorating!
