My husband gave me these two little birds for our anniversary last spring. He held them out and said, “This one is you and the other is me.”
As empty nesters now, those two birds mean even more to me.
Our home is full of objects that tell our story. To someone scrolling past a photo online, items in my pictures might look insignificant, meaningless, or like unnecessary clutter.
I don’t live in a perfectly styled square on Instagram, and I refuse to let social media dictate how I design my home. A room staged only for a photo doesn’t bring joy into my everyday life.
What gives me peace and happiness each day is being present in a home that reflects our life and memories.
I prefer to be surrounded by beautiful, useful things—objects that are not clutter but instead evoke favorite memories or make our space feel cozy and welcoming to us.
I design a home I love to live in, arranging spaces that bring comfort and speak to who we are.
That is what brings me joy.
What brings you joy in your home? Surround yourself with those things and create a space you love to live in. What meaningful treasure do you display that tells your story?
