How to Paint an Old Wood Cabinet White: Step-by-Step Guide

When Michelle sent over her furniture makeover photos, we had to share the stunning before-and-after results. Here’s the note she included:

About a month ago I found your site by accident and completely fell in love with it! You even inspired me to start my own blog. I could go on and on, but I don’t want to waste your time — you guys are busy little bees. I just wanted to show a piece of eye candy that I redesigned. I bought this dresser off Craigslist for only $20. I painted it white, added new hardware, and replaced the bar-style panels on the doors with glass. Isn’t it amazing what a little updating can do? Hope you love it as much as I do! — Michelle

Here’s Michelle’s hutch straight from Craigslist:

And here’s the same piece after primer and paint, with fresh hardware and glass inserts that open up the design:

The transformation is impressive. A bit of primer, paint, and thoughtful details like glass panes and updated knobs turned a bargain Craigslist find into a piece that looks polished and modern. The glass panels help visually lighten the hutch, while the white paint gives it a fresh, versatile finish that would suit many décor styles.

We love how Michelle kept the lines simple and focused on clean updates rather than overcomplicating the design. The result is a functional, stylish piece that could easily pass for store-bought quality. Thanks for sharing your makeover, Michelle — gorgeous work!
