Katie Bower: Creative Home Decorating and Design Ideas

She wasn’t a local for long, but she visited this past weekend with her partner Jeremy and their adorable little one, Will. If you’re not familiar with them, you can learn more about the Bowers on their blog: Bower Power.

The Bower family visit

We had a wonderful time hosting: feeding them, showing them around, and catching up from Friday through Sunday. It was relaxed and full of laughter, exactly the kind of low-key visit we love.

Family time

As tradition dictates when we get together, we filmed a short video. In previous meetups we shot clips like our hotel inspiration videos and a shopping-for-DIY segment; this time we returned to table-setting basics. We started with everyday essentials—white plates, glass cups, standard silverware—and then added five accent items to create three distinct looks for your table.

These arrangements work best for host styles that serve food from the kitchen, where guests return to the table with plated meals. If you prefer large platters and space in the center, you can still borrow colors and accessories from these ideas and adapt them to leave room for serving dishes.

If you can’t listen to the audio at work, the video is still useful on mute—each setup is visible and the five accent items are labeled on screen, so you can follow along without sound. You can also watch the same clip directly on YouTube: Three Ways To Tweak Your Table.
