Having spent an unusually long time wrestling with our own chair upholstery project (I mostly watched while my wife did the heavy lifting), we’re even more impressed with Erin’s makeover of her great aunt’s loveseat. Here’s her note:
A few months ago I decided to reupholster my great aunt’s old loveseat. At first I planned to hire a pro, since I’d never done anything like this before. But then I thought, “Why not give it a try?” And so Project Loveseat began.

It was definitely a challenge and mostly improvised. I can’t write a full tutorial because I’m still not sure of every step I took, but the process proved that this kind of project is achievable for a determined beginner (and a person with a lot of staples). It’s not perfect, but it turned out much better than I expected. —Erin

Three cheers for Erin — her photos and candid account are inspiring and make me want to try another upholstery job. You can view more process photos on her blog Olive Our House. Have you tackled any upholstery, furniture, painting, fabric, or full-room makeovers recently? We love seeing projects, so please send yours to [email protected].
Psst — we shared a little “Fair Fun” over on Young House Life yesterday. Check it out there.
