II’ve encouraged my daughters over the years to pick a signature scent or a signature piece of jewelry as a way to express what makes them unique. Having one defining element — whether it’s a look, an accessory, or a scent — can make you feel put together and confident. The same idea applies to your home.
A signature style for your home is within reach for everyone, whether you rent or own, and whether your space is small or large. Your home is a place to show who you are, what you love, where you’ve been, and how you live. Those meaningful details are what give your space its one-of-a-kind character.
I love being invited into homes that feel warm and personal. A house that truly feels like someone’s is usually the result of a deeper connection between the people who live there and the way they decorate. That connection is what makes a space feel both designed and lived-in.
Have you considered whether you have a signature style? Maybe you haven’t thought about it before, or maybe you have a general sense of what you like but haven’t fully defined it. Either way, recognizing the elements that make you feel at home helps you create a place that feels authentically yours.

A signature style can be expressed with:
– Unique furniture pieces
– An element of surprise, such as distinctive light fixtures or quirky accessories
– A fresh mix of colors and textures you love
– An unexpected combination of patterns
– A meaningful collection
– Artwork that resonates with you

In my home I enjoy a mix of flea market finds, new pieces, handed-down antiques, and items I’ve customized or created myself. Even if pieces are similar to those someone else has, the way you combine and personalize them creates an authentic, individual style.
You don’t need to label your style — you just need to collect what you love. Choose a color palette that inspires you and seek out pieces that make your heart skip a beat. Those choices form the foundation of your home’s signature look.
Being aware of your signature style makes decorating and shopping much easier. Most people gather furniture and accessories over time; once you know what fits your aesthetic, you’ll spot the right elements quickly and confidently.

Remember that a signature style can evolve. You aren’t locked into one look forever. As your tastes change, allow your home to grow with you. Taking risks, adding new pieces, and rearranging what you already own keeps your space fresh and personal. Staying true to your preferences ensures that, even as your style changes, it remains unmistakably yours.
I enjoyed reading the responses to my earlier post, “Get to Know You: Your Style.” It was fun to see how everyone describes what makes their style unique. Sometimes it’s hard to put into words, and that’s fine — exploring what feels like you is part of the process.
Do you have a signature style, or a favorite furniture piece that defines your space?
