I love finding inspiration for my home everywhere. A walk, a magazine, or a storefront display can instantly spark an idea—a particular vibe, texture, or color I want to bring into my space (I still remember the decorating lessons I picked up from Anthropologie).
This little scene caught my eye while I was wandering near home in Seattle this weekend, so I slipped out my phone and snapped a quick photo before anyone noticed. I try to be stealthy like that. (Full disclosure: I don’t know the man in the picture—hello, sir—and he probably has no idea he’s starring at the top of my post.)
I was in a shop called Lucca when I stopped to admire the display. The textures, colors, and playful details felt so right together. What appealed to me was that many of the elements were familiar—pieces I’ve used in past homes or that I currently have. Seeing them arranged differently reminded me how versatile and enduring certain touches can be.
The display blended open rattan shelves loaded with visual treats, whimsical animal figures and a large whale, antique lighting and chandeliers, bits of chippy furniture, chalkboards, and a deep navy backdrop. Those are not just trendy accents to me—they are staples I continue to love.
My new house will of course develop its own character because every home is different and my taste evolves over time. Still, I expect that after living here for a while it will showcase the same mix of things I’m drawn to. When you follow your instincts, your personal style travels with you.
Your home should reflect who you are.
Getting there takes time. Learning your home’s strengths and getting clearer about what you like are part of the process. Don’t be afraid to bring in styles, textures, and colors you discover along the way that make you feel happy. Edit ruthlessly: keep what resonates, remove what doesn’t. Over time you’ll assemble a combination that feels uniquely yours.
This is what I love about personal style: it’s a gradual journey of discovery. You refine the things you love, gain confidence in your choices, and then your home becomes a more authentic expression of you.
What elements in a home make your heart flutter?
