I just wanted my house to smell like Anthropologie.
If you want your house to smell like Anthropologie (who doesn’t love that Volcano candle?), read on!
AI’ve always been enamored with the scent that fills Anthropologie stores. For years I’d step inside, take a deep breath, and sigh—exactly the aroma I wanted at home. For a long time I burned their candles almost daily and loved the atmosphere they created.
A few years ago I stopped burning scented candles and stopped buying many scented products after learning about links between synthetic fragrances and health concerns. It felt like the right choice for my family’s wellbeing, but I missed having a home that smelled divine.
To replace candles I began experimenting with essential oils. My first attempts at recreating Anthropologie-style scents were promising but not quite right. After testing blends with my daughters, we landed on recipes that smell very close to two of our favorites: Volcano and Sweet Vanilla Cinnamon.

We tested our diffuser blends next to the original Anthropologie Volcano and Sweet Vanilla Cinnamon candles until we were happy with the match. The natural oil versions now make my home smell wonderful without synthetic fragrances, and I actually prefer the plant-based scents for how they make me feel.
Below are the diffuser recipes we developed. Adjust the number of drops to suit your diffuser size and scent strength. For stronger fragrance increase the drops; for a subtle scent reduce them.

Anthropologie-Inspired Volcano Essential Oil Diffuser Recipe
Anthropologie describes Volcano as notes of tropical fruits, sugared oranges, lemons and limes, and subtly exotic mountain greens. To capture that bright, fruity and slightly green profile try this blend.
This mix works well in medium to large diffusers. Reduce the number of drops for smaller rooms or a softer scent.
- 5 drops lemon
- 5 drops lime
- 3 drops orange
- 2 drops grapefruit
- 2 drops northern lights black spruce
- 1 drop bergamot

Anthropologie-Inspired Sweet Vanilla Cinnamon Diffuser Recipe
For a warm, cozy scent reminiscent of vanilla and spice, this simple blend is inviting and comforting—perfect for cooler months or any time you want a sweeter aroma.
- 3 drops vanilla
- 1 drop cinnamon bark
- 1 drop nutmeg
- Tip: Increase drops proportionally for larger spaces or stronger scent.
Use these blends in any ultrasonic diffuser. Start with the suggested drops, then tweak until it matches your memory of the original scent and suits the room size.

Switching to high-quality, plant-based essential oils allowed us to enjoy rich, layered scents without synthetic additives. In our household we use oils daily—for restful sleep, mood support, natural home fragrance, skin care, and occasional cleaning. Oils are versatile and can enhance wellbeing when used thoughtfully.
If you’re new to diffusing, choose a reliable diffuser and start small. Add water, the recommended drops of oil, and run shorter cycles until you know how strong the aroma becomes in your space. Keep blends simple at first; you can always combine more oils later.
Enjoy scenting your home the natural way

Have fun experimenting and adjusting these blends to make your home smell like your favorite store—naturally and safely. Happy diffusing!
