Black hardware cabinets
Workbook by Westbrook
One important choice when designing a kitchen is the cabinet hardware. While warm brass and gold finishes have been trending, matte black hardware remains a timeless and versatile option. Black finishes feel grounded and classic; they pair easily with a wide range of cabinet colors and kitchen styles. Metal hardware rarely feels strictly “in” or “out” — instead, each finish works best when it complements the overall design of the home.
I’m particularly fond of white cabinets with black hardware. The contrast is crisp and approachable: black knobs and pulls can lend a kitchen an unpretentious, welcoming character. I used black iron hardware in an English Tudor home and appreciated the warmth and authenticity it added. It’s likely black hardware will appear again in future projects because it suits so many looks.
Below are inspirational kitchen photos showcasing black hardware in different settings — from bright white kitchens to wood- and slate-toned designs. At the end of the gallery there’s a brief list of hardware sources if you want ideas for where to start.
Enjoy!
