Earlier this summer I wanted a neutral, flatwoven rug with enough texture to layer another rug over it if needed. This jute-cotton blend proved to be the perfect choice. I like the look of sisal and seagrass, but this rug feels softer because of the cotton blend, making it comfortable for little ones. We’re excited to welcome our first grandchild in February, so softness and durability were important for us.

Here are a few frequently asked questions we’ve received about this rug.

A few FAQ:

Q: Is it soft (soft enough for toddlers to crawl around on?)

A: Yes—it’s quite soft and not scratchy, comfortable for children to play on.

Q: Do you use a rug pad with it?

A: Yes. I use this rug pad to add cushioning and help keep the rug in place.

Q: Does it pull with dog nails?

A: We’ve used this rug around our two dogs daily since summer and haven’t had issues with pulls. Natural fibers like jute can have occasional loose bits; cotton threads can be pulled back through from the reverse side if needed, making minor repairs straightforward.

Q: Is it a good neutral color?

A: Yes. The rug blends ivory and tan tones for a versatile neutral that complements many decor styles. It’s offered in several other colors as well.

Q: Does it shed or have any odor?

A: It hasn’t shed for us, and it doesn’t have the natural-fiber odor that some rugs do.

Details on the rug: This handmade farmhouse-style area rug features a simple woven pattern and subtle fading for a relaxed, lived-in look. Flatwoven in India from a jute and cotton blend, it has a crisp beige tone that pairs well with coastal and casual interiors. The rug’s medium-thick 0.25″ pile stands up to foot traffic while providing enough cushion for comfort. For safety and added comfort, we recommend using a rug pad underneath.
