What a week! We’ve been busy around the house and have so much to share. Last weekend I co-hosted a lighting workshop at The Home Depot. By co-hosting I mean I brought my DIY lamp and my girls, chatted with attendees, shared a bit about the lamp, and learned a lot from the experts.
I love attending The Home Depot workshops. If you haven’t tried one, I think you’ll enjoy it — I always pick up useful skills and practical tips for the home. This session focused on lighting: we covered choosing the right bulbs, improving energy efficiency, and selecting and installing dimmer switches. We bought dimmer switches for the whole house when we moved in, but haven’t installed them yet. I can’t believe we haven’t — I adore soft lighting and mood settings.

These days the lightbulb aisle can feel overwhelming — so many choices it’s easy to freeze. I used to pick cheaper incandescent bulbs out of habit, until the workshop helped me see the long-term savings from LEDs. LEDs last far longer, use much less energy, and make particular sense for fixtures that are hard to reach, like tall chandeliers or other high ceiling lights.
We also saw a demonstration comparing how different bulbs cast light. The difference between warm light and daylight bulbs is dramatic. Warm bulbs create a cozy atmosphere I prefer in living spaces, while daylight bulbs are excellent in work areas like garages where bright, clear light helps with projects and finding things in dim corners.
Next time you’re shopping for bulbs at The Home Depot, don’t hesitate to ask staff for advice. Their associates are knowledgeable and can help you choose bulbs that save energy and money over time.
My DIY Barrel Lamp was a hit at the workshop — it practically stole the show. After the event I walked the store with it and it definitely drew attention. Maybe lamp making could be a sideline if blogging ever slows down.

I hope you’ll come to the next workshop I help host. It’s always a pleasure to meet readers and people who stop by. I’ve co-hosted a few events now and always enjoy the conversations and hands-on learning.

After a final playful selfie with our DIY lamp — because DIY projects feel like a big accomplishment — we went for coffee and enjoyed the glorious Seattle sunshine that afternoon.
Hope you have a fabulous weekend!
