Welcome to Day Two of my 31 Days of Falling For Fall series!

Throughout this series I’ll be sharing rooms, displays and tablescapes that feel cozy or inspiring for fall. Some may surprise you — not every cozy room relies on deep colors or heavy textures. What makes a space feel warm is often a thoughtful mix of materials, finishes and details. Katie Rosenfeld’s dining room is a perfect example.

Although the room is largely white with cool blue accents, it still reads cozy and welcoming.

How did she strike that balance?

Five designer takeaways that make this room work:

1. The blue chairs are a peacock or teal tone, but their soft velvet upholstery reads inviting and comfortable. Texture can make cool colors feel warm and tactile.

2. The light fixture’s warm gold tone adds subtle luxury and a soft glow. Warm metals like brass and gold bring an instant sense of warmth and sophistication that silver tones don’t provide.

3. Fabric shades on the chandelier diffuse the light, creating a gentler, more intimate ambiance than exposed bulbs.

4. Carpet runners on the stairs and an area rug in the dining space introduce extra layers and texture. Even with beautiful wood floors, textiles add comfort and a lived-in feeling.

5. The wood table and stair rail contribute natural warmth and contrast against painted white woodwork and the painted green chest, grounding the room with rich, organic tones.

What details do you notice in this room?
