Kylee here with some house updates to share. My parents recently downsized and moved into their new home with my grandparents, which meant paring down furniture and decor. I was fortunate to receive several beautiful pieces—perfect timing as we settle into our new house. I thought it would be fun to show where some of those hand-me-downs have landed so far.

First up: copper planters and a hanging door basket at our front door. I love the warm tone of the copper pots— they play so nicely with the fall colors in our yard and neighborhood. These planters will be fun to swap out seasonally. The exact hanging basket I received is no longer available, but there are several similar styles you can find. The metallic finish adds a welcoming, edited touch without feeling fussy.

Next, the dining table, chairs, and banquette bench made their way into our dining area. That table actually belonged to my grandparents before my parents had it, so it has traveled through several homes in our family. It feels meaningful to have it here again, where we’ll make new memories around it. I also inherited a small hanging bell/candle holder that now adds a sweet, unexpected detail to the corner.

One of my favorite finds is a blue-and-white lamp from my parents’ home. I now have two matching pairs and I’m experimenting with their placement; one of them is pictured here. The dresser nearby was my mom’s vintage piece that she painted years ago—the finish and color she chose are timeless. The rug in this room came from my grandparents during their downsizing, and the pillow Leo is cuddling with is another family hand-me-down. It’s lovely to have these familiar pieces around.

A buffet cabinet that used to be in my mom’s dining room now lives in our dining area, where it stores entertaining essentials. It’s been great to incorporate pieces that already feel lived-in and full of history—those details give a home character instantly.
I’ve always loved a collected-over-time look, and combining my mom’s classic pieces with things we already owned is creating that exact vibe. Many items arrived without a predetermined spot; I wasn’t sure they’d work, but it’s been a pleasure to experiment. Often they fit better than I’d imagined—perhaps because my mom has great taste and chose versatile, timeless pieces.
If you don’t have family hand-me-downs, secondhand sources like local marketplaces can be excellent for finding unique pieces at great prices. It requires patience and persistence, but you can uncover real gems. My approach is to grab anything I love and then find a place for it—if it doesn’t work, you can always resell it.
I shared a few more pieces recently on my mom’s Instagram stories, so if you missed them you can view the highlights there. I’ll continue posting updates on my Instagram as I arrange and style these items—I’d love for you to follow along and chat about decorating finds.
