Want to make your own bed canopy? We made one for our daughter’s room about five years ago and it turned out wonderfully. It also served as a simple way to hide an awkward window behind the bed—if you look closely you can see the fabric pulled back slightly to reveal the window frame.

If you want a more decorative finish like ours, embellish the edges with trim or faux fur using a hot glue gun or fabric adhesive. Adding bead trim, pom-poms, or scalloped edging gives the canopy a custom, polished appearance. Keep the embellishments lightweight so they don’t pull on the fabric or stress the mounting points.
To install a simple ceiling canopy, locate ceiling joists or use appropriate anchors for your ceiling type, measure and mark the placement of hooks or brackets, and hang the rods or ring securely. Drape and arrange the fabric until you achieve the desired fullness and symmetry. For angled ceilings, follow the slope with multiple rods to create a tiered effect like the one pictured.
Maintenance is straightforward: vacuum gently with a soft brush attachment to remove dust, or detach and launder panels according to the fabric’s care instructions. Check the mounts periodically to make sure everything remains secure, especially in a child’s room where the canopy may be handled more frequently.
