The Surprising Home Accessory Hiding in Your Cupboard

A while back I mentioned that mason jars were my top party decorating idea ever. But honestly, a glass container of any kind is my favorite everyday decorating and organizing accessory. There’s almost no limit to what you can do with jars: big jars, small jars, lidded jars, wide jars, tall jars — they all have a use.

The best part about jars? You can often collect many of them for free when you buy food, making them a frugal and flexible solution. Chances are you already have glass containers in your cupboards that aren’t being used to their full potential.

I love practical, budget-friendly ideas that work throughout the home.

Use jars in every room — craft areas, laundry rooms, bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchens. They organize small items and also make attractive displays.

Try pairing two glass containers and filling the space between them with colored water, sand, or shells to create layered centerpieces.

When you look through your cupboards you may discover many useful shapes: glass ice buckets, vases, canning jars, spaghetti sauce jars, jelly jars, and even baby food jars. Think beyond the obvious and consider how each shape and size could serve as storage, a vase, a utensil holder, or part of a centerpiece.

Do you have cupboards full of jars and vases that could be repurposed for decorative storage or displays? What creative centerpieces could you make from the containers you already own? What are your favorite jar ideas?

Simple jars are endlessly useful — from pantry organization to creative table decor. Try repurposing what you already have to refresh your space without spending much.
