Hi friends! I’m excited to share an update for the Makeover in a Month series. A group of blogging friends and I set a timeline to each start and finish a room makeover in our homes by the end of the month. Deadlines make you move fast—kind of like how a visit from company will get you cleaning in record time. With visits rare these days, we made our own deadline and it’s been motivating.
This time I’m tackling a simple refresh in our basement bathroom. I’ve put this project off for five years while other priorities took precedence, but now it’s happening in just a few days. Having a deadline helped me stop chasing a “perfect” plan and focus on practical choices that make a real difference. It’s been fun to watch how a few thoughtful updates already transform the space.

Last week I shared the freshly painted vanity. The original dark glossy wood, along with dated silver and brass hardware, was weighing the room down. A coat of milk paint completely transformed the cabinet and brightened the space. Changing the vanity color made a noticeable improvement almost immediately.
This week we installed new matte black faucets from Kingston Brass. It’s amazing how paint plus updated fixtures can make the whole room feel new. I’m thrilled with the results so far. We also replaced the towel rod, robe hook, toilet paper holder, and toilet handle to match, which instantly gives a cohesive, finished look.

I love the vintage-inspired faucets; they have great detail and solid quality. Switching all the hardware to a matte black finish ties the elements together and brings a contemporary touch that complements the refreshed vanity.
Next on the list is painting a stencil pattern on the wall, which I’m curious to see come to life. After the stencil, we’ll hang new mirrors and replace the old light fixtures with white powder-coated vanity lights. Those changes should add cleaner lines and a brighter feel to the room.
There’s also a design mood board that guided this mini makeover—helpful when you want a clear direction without overcomplicating decisions.

It’s rewarding to see the room start to come together. Small, well-chosen changes—paint, coordinated hardware, and updated lighting—can refresh a space quickly and affordably. I’m looking forward to sharing the completed reveal once everything is finished.
