Ifeel for those of you dealing with snow this winter. A dusting is charming, but endless cold and snow is too much. We’re freezing here (no snow yet), and I’m definitely ready for warmer days and a beach escape.

Would a week in an oceanfront cottage on Tybee Island help? I thought so. While I can’t take everyone on a real vacation, I can share the cottage where my daughters and I stayed so you can enjoy a virtual summer getaway with us.

My daughters and I hadn’t had a true “girls’ getaway” before, so early last fall I arranged a week on Tybee Island. I had work trips to New York City and Tybee with five free days in between, so instead of crisscrossing the country, I invited my girls to join me for a week of beach time and day trips to Savannah.

We had a wonderful time walking on the beach, eating, shopping and playing tourists. We also did a lot of meaningful work—planning business goals and exchanging creative ideas. My daughters are thoughtful, enthusiastic collaborators, and those five days together were priceless, even if they’re usually busy with demanding jobs.

We stayed at Doyles on the Dunes, part of the Mermaid Cottages collection. The oceanfront cottage offered a stunning view and a beautiful beach right outside the door. It was everything you want in a relaxed beach cottage: comfortable, casual and perfectly situated for both work and play.
Here’s a little tour of the cottage and our time there.

The staff at Mermaid Cottages were kind and helpful, which made our visit even better. We left with warm memories from our time on Tybee and from exploring nearby Savannah.

I’ll share more photos and stories from our Savannah day trips and another lovely beachfront house we stayed in on Tybee Island in upcoming posts. For now, when the weather is cold or snowy, it helps to imagine sunny beaches and salty air.
Are you ready for winter to be over?
