I’m a firm believer in designing a home that reflects who you are and the life you want to live.
Even more important, though, is designing a life that supports how you want to feel.
How we arrange our daily surroundings and routines affects both emotional and physical health. Thoughtful choices at home are a practical way to increase overall well‑being.
First, consider how you want to feel.
Do your daily choices support that feeling and your larger goals?

Do you want to feel frazzled, stressed, overwhelmed, tired, or run down?
Or would you rather feel peaceful, inspired, strong, accomplished, or joyful?
This year I’ve been examining daily habits closely. Not only asking the hard questions, but acting on what I know will support my health and goals—even when it’s difficult.
Am I building boundaries in my schedule so I have time to rest and the energy to recharge?
Am I willing to say no to things, even good things, that don’t align with my priorities or that might harm my health?
Am I caring for everyone else while neglecting my own needs?
It’s easy to know the right answers and still postpone the necessary changes. I’ve been guilty of putting myself low on the priority list, even while doing many healthy things. I’ll share more of that story soon.
Today I want to share a self‑care ritual that’s helping me slow down and make time for myself.
I enjoy making the bathroom feel like a personal spa, even though mine is still a vintage pink-and-mint room. Baths weren’t always a priority for me, but that changed when my naturopath suggested weekly detox baths whenever I felt run down.

Our environment exposes us to many chemicals: cosmetics, personal care items, and household cleaners. These can build up in the body over time. A detox bath supports your body’s natural detox processes, relaxes the nervous system, and promotes better sleep.
Make the bath a deliberate act of self‑care. Turn off the internet, dim the lights, light a candle, and play gentle music. Let this be your time to rest and reset.
There are many variations of detox baths—no single recipe is required. The important thing is to choose pure ingredients: quality Epsom salts without additives, and pure essential oils without fillers. Many commercial bath products contain artificial colors and fragrances, so avoid those.
To take a detox bath, run hot water—comfortably hot for you—and soak (keeping your head out of the water) for about 20 minutes. When you get out, wrap up in a warm robe and aim for a restful night.
Detox Bath Recipe:
2 cups quality Epsom salts
1/2 cup baking soda
10–20 drops pure essential oil (lavender or a calming blend are nice)
Stir together and add to the running bath water to dissolve.
Optional additions: a few drops of a soothing massage oil, a CBD‑infused product if desired, or a natural bath bomb—choose non‑toxic products you trust. These extras can enhance relaxation and scent, but aren’t necessary for the benefits.
Consider a bath pillow for added comfort and sit back for a focused moment of care.
Enjoy!
Join me in making intentional choices for daily well‑being. This detox bath is the first part of a series on self‑care—more rituals and reflections will follow.
