YAll, can you believe it? It’s officially the first day of fall! I love this season and want to savor every bit of it. Do you feel that little chill in the air yet?

Do you feel more energized to make your home inviting at this time of year? I certainly do. I’ve been on a cozy-up-the-house kick for weeks, puttering around and tackling small projects. In a small home it doesn’t take much to make things feel warmer and more welcoming, and I’m loving that.

Next Monday I’ll be hosting my (almost annual) fall house tour, so stay tuned. I was so glad to hear many of you are excited to see it!

As dreamy as a fall house tour might sound, my reality is that our kitchen is about to be gutted and several projects are still underway, leaving traces of chaos everywhere. There’s no perfection here.

That imperfection means I’ll invite you into both the cozy and the chaotic. For those who asked, I’ll share progress on our still-incomplete side yard and a peek at our white brick exterior.

The effort will be worth it in the end. I keep reminding myself that the work will get done when it gets done; stressing won’t help. Sometimes delays give us time to rethink choices and make better decisions financially or design-wise. The twists and turns are part of the creative process—and they do make life interesting.

One of my best strategies for balancing a busy life and ongoing projects is to delegate as much as I can. I often order meal ingredients from Blue Apron to keep sanity during hectic weeks. This fall will be no exception as we juggle renovations and seasonal activities.

Soon we won’t have a working kitchen and will be washing dishes in the bathtub for a while. It will be an adventure. Many of you have asked how we’ll manage without a kitchen: we plan to set up a makeshift cooking area in the laundry room and rely on an electric skillet, a crockpot, and our barbecue when the weather allows.

Blue Apron always saves the day for our family because it guarantees we’ll have a good meal, no matter how busy the day has been or how chaotic the house is.

I’m always happy when the refrigerated box arrives with fresh ingredients ready to prepare. It feels like having a personal shopper take care of groceries and someone to help get dinner on the table.

I enjoy checking the new recipes Blue Apron adds weekly and knowing the ingredients come from quality suppliers and artisans. It’s simple to skip meals or pause deliveries when needed, so there’s no pressure to stick to a strict schedule.

Recently we made Blue Apron’s Beef Bolognese, a perfect dish to ease into fall cooking. As we work on cozying our dining room, we set a pretty table and enjoyed every bite. Sitting down together for a home-cooked meal helps us feel grounded and sane.

No matter the chaos at home, I hope you find moments to slow down and enjoy the season.

Four simple ways I like to savor fall:

  • Place flickering candles or lanterns on the porch to welcome the season.
  • Gather around a prettily set table for a home-cooked meal.
  • Sip hot apple cider from a large, cozy mug.
  • Wrap up in warm plaid blankets by the fireplace.
