I have a real fondness for round mirrors. So much of home design relies on squares and rectangles, and a circular shape instantly softens the space and adds visual interest.
Recently I added a large, playful round wood ship-portal–style mirror to our kitchen and it has transformed the room. The piece feels whimsical yet rustic, and it brings a lively, unexpected personality to the space. It sits somewhere between a modern sunburst and a coastal portal mirror, and its unique character exceeded my expectations.
At first I worried it might dominate the room, but it turned out to be a strong, balanced focal point. Too often we choose accessories that are safe or predictable; one striking, well-placed piece can make a much bigger impact than several smaller items. The mirror’s warm, textured wood echoes our floors while contrasting nicely with the sleek white quartz countertops. Its round form is the perfect finishing touch in a room full of rectangles.

I’d like to share more of this cozy kitchen corner, but I’m saving several shots for the full kitchen reveal. I will say there are some charming new light fixtures I can’t wait to show you before that big reveal, so stay tuned. I’ve been updating the space gradually and want to share each addition, but seeing the entire room together will give a far better sense of how everything relates and how the style flows from corner to corner.
Speaking of round mirrors (I do jump between topics), I’ve added a few others over the past year. One hangs above my bed and another just went into our powder room — that makeover is nearly finished and I’ll be sharing it soon. The powder room turned out so cute, and I’m thrilled to have it completed.
Also? I’m pretty happy to see tulips again. Aren’t you? Spring is on its way.
The rustic round wood mirror shown here came from a home decor shop called Lulu & Georgia. This mirror was provided to The Inspired Room in exchange for a blog mention; as always, my opinions and design choices are my own.
