Whether you completely love your home or find it an ongoing work in progress, practicing gratitude for what you have—and what you can do—can be surprisingly powerful.
What are five things you love about your home?
If that question feels hard, keep reading for ideas and prompts to help you notice the good parts of where you live.
NOTE: We’ll be sharing answers this week in our new free community group on Facebook.
If you aren’t on Facebook, no problem—share your thoughts in the comments below. I’d love to hear about your home.
I’ll go first:
Five things I love about my home:
- The view of the Puget Sound and mountains.
- My Dutch doors.
- My kitchen.
- The warm, happy feeling the house gives us—even before we made it our own.
- The outdoor areas where we spend time and relax.
Those are just a few things I appreciate. I’m grateful there were features I liked about this house before we moved in and that I’ve been able to make improvements over the years. I love my home more now than I used to, though there are still aspects I’d change.
Being a dreamer and a house lover can be a challenge—there are so many homes I’d love to try living in. Focusing on gratitude for what I have and what I can do with it helps me stay content and creative.

Maybe you feel like you don’t have anything to love about your home. Perhaps your current situation limits changes, or there are only a few things you like. That’s okay.
Ask yourself this:
What are five things I COULD DO this year to fall more in love with my home?
Don’t let limited funds stop you from making your current place feel more like home. Think of five things that are realistic for your situation this year—small, simple actions that are within reach. Having a short list of achievable ideas can lift your mood and motivate change. When I don’t brainstorm possibilities, I tend toward discontent; coming up with doable projects keeps me moving forward.
I’m asking myself the same question and planning small steps I can take this year. Even if you already love your home, new ideas keep it fresh and enjoyable. Making steady progress on your space brings satisfaction and sparks creativity.
