4th of July Home Ideas: Decorations, Activities & Safety Tips

I was sorting through phone photos from the Fourth of July and decided to share a few here for the memories. These were all taken casually throughout the day, but they capture little moments around the house that I always enjoy looking back on.

This photo of Jack on the Dutch door was spontaneous. He used to hesitate before jumping up there, but now he hops up on his own. It’s become one of those small, proud moments.

I had just finished trimming the climbing roses — they were absolutely full of blooms a couple of weeks ago. I trimmed them back to encourage another round of flowers. They’ve thrived against the fence, and I’m thinking of adding another trellis next year, as well as one for the Star Jasmine on the other side.

This spot is my favorite in the mornings — you can see the water from here, but it still stays cool and shaded. Do you notice that wild vine on the porch? It sprouted unexpectedly and I planted it in a pot; it turned out to be honeysuckle and quickly outgrew its little trellis.

Jack looks so cute in his bandana. He’s such a ham for the camera and always brightens up these little photo stories.

Our hydrangeas have been blooming everywhere in the yard. We have mostly blue hydrangeas and a white one too. It’s been a pleasure to cut them and arrange small bouquets around the house. Of course, I staged a few in the sink to photograph — blogger habit, I suppose — but they really do look lovely there.

We still love our Trex deck — Lily does too. It has been a wonderful addition and we’ve been spending more time outside than ever, now that our routines have shifted. It’s been a simple pleasure to eat, relax, and watch the garden from there.

Speaking of being home, stay tuned next week — I’ll be sharing ideas about our interior floor plan and a few updates I’ve been planning.
