Each January I set aside time to refresh and improve our bedroom with small, practical updates. This year my guiding phrase was “a place for everything and everything in its place,” so I focused on both beautifying and organizing our space. When I found a simple wicker trunk at Wayfair, it felt like the perfect solution to a long-standing storage problem in our room.
Below I’ll share why this basket-style trunk has worked so well for us and how it can help keep a bedroom neat and functional.
I enjoy organizing with baskets and have added several new styles around the house. These bring texture and function to each room—I’ll share more of my favorites soon.

Our bedroom is modest in size and we don’t have an oversized closet, so finding smart storage that fits the room is important. For us, extra blankets had become a constant source of clutter.
Blankets are bulky and can quickly consume closet space. Without a linen closet or extra shelving, finding a tidy place for them felt like a challenge.

I didn’t want blankets crowding our closet any longer, so this lined wicker trunk was an appealing find. Its removable liner makes it especially versatile—ideal for storing blankets, extra sheets, mattress pads or even extra pillows. It could also hold books, hobby supplies or seasonal items.

A lidded trunk keeps the bedroom looking neater than an open basket while still offering easy access to what’s inside. The proportions of this trunk are ideal for the foot of the bed or a narrow corner: tall enough to hold plenty, but compact enough to avoid taking up valuable floor space.

The rattan weave mixes warm browns with soft grays and includes rope accents, which gives the piece a relaxed, layered look. Built-in handles make it easy to move when needed. I also appreciate the texture it adds to the room—it feels intentional, not just utilitarian.

I use baskets and trunks throughout the house to:
stash everyday clutter
keep pet supplies organized
store seasonal florals and branches
contain paperwork
hold table linens
organize games and toys
corral cords and electronics
fold blankets and pillow covers
hide bathroom essentials
keep remotes and keys handy
and much more.
Are you tackling any organizing projects this month?
