One of my favorite ways to decorate is to embrace the current season. You don’t need a complete overhaul to refresh a room — a few well-chosen pieces can make a space feel new. We aren’t taking a tropical trip this summer, but with bright days and warm light it was easy to bring a summery, tropical retreat vibe into our bedroom using finds from Walmart Home.

I chose items that are cute, versatile, and affordable so they’ll work in other rooms and seasons, too. Swapping accessories is a simple, budget-friendly way to change the mood of a room without committing to major updates.

Here are my six favorite tips for decorating a summer bedroom:

1. Decorate with what you love, but don’t be afraid to try something new. I replaced plain white lamps with a floral white ceramic lamp and teal shade. The playful color and shape instantly added personality to the room. Small changes like a colorful lamp can make a big impact and keep the space feeling fresh.

Finding a piece you love at a good price is such a thrill, especially when you spot a similar item elsewhere at a much higher price. Shopping regularly and knowing your style helps you spot those great finds.

2. It’s okay to make a space pretty now, even if you plan to change it later. I added a botanical wall art set to a wall that felt uninspired. Hanging art can feel like a big decision, but it instantly finished the wall and made the room feel more personal. If you change your mind later, you can always swap it out — but you might wonder why you waited so long.

3. Introduce a moody accent, even in summer. You don’t have to stick to only light tones. A deeper hue provides contrast and depth. I added a faux suede peacock-colored pillow that ties in with the lamp and adds a richer tone that will transition nicely into fall.

4. Choose versatile layers. I selected a white chenille duvet and shams that work like a lightweight coverlet but also accept an insert to become plush and cozy. Layering versatile bedding allows you to adapt the bed for different temperatures and seasons without changing the whole set.

5. Don’t forget texture. A round wicker tray added warmth and tactile interest to the bed styling. Texture transforms a room’s feeling and can be introduced through small accessories like trays, baskets, and woven accents that are functional and decorative.

6. Look for pillow covers with zippers. I picked a blue and white patterned pillow set with zippered covers. Zippers let you insert a very full pillow for plumpness, and make it easy to swap covers seasonally or store them when you want a different look.

These pillows worked beautifully in our living room as well, showing how versatile simple pattern and color choices can be across the home.
