As we continue our Best of the Best series, we turn our attention to bedroom decor. Today I’m highlighting a bold option: bedroom wallpaper. Wallpaper can dramatically change the mood of a room, but many people hesitate because of the thought of removing it later. After taking down wallpaper in older homes myself, I understand that concern. Patterns and colors can feel dated over time, and removing wallpaper can be a time-consuming project.
I haven’t installed wallpaper in years, though I do have rolls tucked away for when inspiration strikes. The main reason I wait is wall condition: wallpaper shows every bump and imperfection, so if your plaster isn’t smooth you may need to have walls skimmed or use a lining paper. That adds expense and work, but the finished look can be worth it if you love the design.
The good news is that many modern wallpapers are easier to remove than older papers, so the fear of a difficult future project shouldn’t stop you from trying it. Wallpaper can make a strong visual statement and bring energy and interest to a bedroom in ways painted walls often can’t. If you want to test the idea, consider covering just one accent wall to see how you like it before committing to a full room.
Whether you’re ready to wallpaper your own bedroom or you simply enjoy the aesthetic, wallpapered rooms photograph beautifully and provide plenty of design inspiration.
Enjoy the inspiration! Happy Monday!
