Remember when I mentioned months ago that we were repainting our bedroom? We finally finished, and I took photos so I could share the color and the final look. Painting a dark color with white trim is slow work, and my very meticulous painter (my husband) took his time, but the result was worth waiting for. We absolutely love it.

The room still needs a few finishing touches, like window blinds, but it’s nearly complete, so I wanted to talk about the paint color. This space is modest in size, but it has become my favorite bedroom we’ve had. Instead of continuing the light, airy palette used in other rooms, we embraced a cozy, unexpected wall color to create a warm, intimate atmosphere.
We chose Black Frosted Plum by Glidden. It reads as a deep charcoal with a subtle plum undertone that changes with the light. In daylight it can appear softer and more inviting; in the evening it deepens to a rich charcoal. The white crown molding, ceiling, and trim provide crisp contrast that brightens the room and keeps the dark walls from feeling heavy.

Plum can be a tricky direction to take, so we balanced it with a mix of materials and finishes. Feminine elements like a mirrored nightstand and a crystal-and-brass chandelier add sparkle, while a cozy faux fur throw and a traditional dark wood sleigh bed bring warmth and grounding. The result feels layered and balanced—part romantic, part comfortable, and very much a shared space.
The bedding is a pale gray and white duvet with charcoal toile details and subtle gold stitching, and the reverse features a lighter feather sketch pattern. The toile adds a whimsical touch to the otherwise serious palette and gives the room a hint of unexpected character.
Some of the pieces, like the patterned duvet and a velvet quilt, were splurges, while other accessories such as neutral shams and linen drapes were found at more budget-friendly retailers. Mixing investment pieces with affordable finds gives the room personality without breaking the bank, and it leaves room to swap accents seasonally.
I never imagined choosing plum walls, but this room has quickly become my favorite. The white and charcoal elements tie in well with the hallway and the slate floors outside the bedroom, creating continuity through the home. It’s a cozy retreat where I love to unwind each night.
