While I was on a short working getaway last week, my daughter Courtney and I had a lull between events, so we drove through one of our favorite Seattle neighborhoods, Queen Anne. The area is known for beautiful homes, many with views of the Space Needle or the water. With scenery like that, it’s no surprise the houses can be spectacular.

Courtney is claiming the one above.

I’m fond of the unpretentious picket fence on this one.

Many of these houses are stately yet charming, and the neighborhood is especially pleasant to stroll through on a sunny day. This visit we were in a hurry and opted for a proper “drive-by” instead of walking, but I’ll be back to take more photos and some close-ups. You know I love to peek behind gates and get a closer look for you.

Even from the car you can see how many gorgeous homes there are. We kept stopping in the middle of the street to admire them and exclaim over details. I wouldn’t mind living in any of these, though the price tags are likely out of reach for most of us. Maybe we could all chip in and buy one someday?

You don’t see many palm trees in the Pacific Northwest, so spotting one feels almost tropical — though we’re definitely still in Seattle.

This time of year it’s especially enjoyable to admire well-tended yards. Many homes feature thoughtful landscaping that complements the architecture.

This house has long been one of my favorites — I may have featured it in a past drive-by. Someday I hope the owners will invite me inside so I don’t have to peer through the gates.
