Rattan Daybed Ideas for Styling a Cozy Guest Room

Yesterday marked the official first day of fall, though I’ve felt the season in my head for weeks. We’ve been deep into packing at our Seattle house this week (if you caught my Instagram stories, you might know the house is pending sale). Saying goodbye to a home we poured so much love into feels bittersweet, but mostly it feels right. I’ll share more about that transition in a future post.

Before listing the house, we made one simple change that made me so happy: moving our rattan daybed into the small guest room. We bought that daybed years ago and it has lived in different spots—first in the living room (where the dog loved to perch and look outside), then in my son’s room when he came home from college in 2020. For a long time this room had a queen bed because we often hosted family from Portland, so keeping things practical always came first.

When my son moved out again and we began prepping the house for sale, I finally had the chance to place the daybed in this room. My husband and I moved it ourselves through the hallway — it was an adventure and we almost didn’t make it through, but once it was in place it looked exactly as I’d pictured. It added the cozy, layered look I’d imagined for a small guest space.

Designing our home has always been about practical living first. I don’t style things just “for the blog.” What you see here reflects how we actually lived and what worked for our family. That authenticity matters to me, and the daybed in this room felt like a small, joyful reminder of that approach.

We took lots of photos of the house as we staged it for sale, and I’m thinking of sharing a full tour here on the blog. Would you like to see that? I’ll put it together between packing boxes — stay tuned.

By the way, there’s a big sale at Serena & Lily right now — it’s where I got this daybed and several other statement pieces in our home. I’ve ordered a few items for our new house and can’t wait to share them.
