2012 Home Projects Recap: My Top Renovations and DIY Wins

Happy almost end of 2012! What a year it has been. I put together a roundup of projects I worked on around our house in 2012. After reviewing the year’s posts, I’m surprised at how much we accomplished. It feels like our busiest year of projects yet. I probably missed a few things, but these are some of my favorites.

The biggest project this year, aside from installing new hardwood floors, was our kitchen makeover. It took over six months from start to finish. I shared many updates during the process and will be revealing the completed kitchen and pantry soon. I can’t wait to show you the final results.

Kids’ Bathroom Makeover

Although the kids’ bathroom was mostly completed in 2011, the reveal happened in 2012, so it’s included here. I also shared a tutorial for a tin ceiling tile backsplash that paired nicely with that space.

Some of my favorite projects are simple updates that make a big impact. In 2013 we plan to focus on more quick, affordable updates — decorating, homemaking and organization — now that the major remodels are mostly done.

Early in January I’ll share my Home Dreams and Goals for 2013 and reflect on how I did with my 2012 goals.

Below is a roundup of many of the projects, improvements and progress we made around our home. Toward the end of 2012 we completed a number of big items — new wood floors, painting in the kitchen and family room updates — so 2013 will reveal more finished rooms as the remaining details come together.

Hickory Hardwood Floors — Kitchen & Family Room

After revisiting all we accomplished in 2012, I might need a few more vacation days. Phew!

2012 was also a big year for The Inspired Room. The blog became The Inspired Room, LLC. I started pinning for Better Homes & Gardens, was featured in a House Beautiful spread on color, formed a video partnership with Scripps Network, helped Jack the Goldendoodle start his own blog, traveled to NYC and to the Ballard Designs headquarters, and was invited to be part of Martha’s Circle, among other exciting milestones and opportunities.

I feel so blessed to share my home, projects, ideas and life here. Every day feels like a dream come true. Thank you for your support and encouragement in 2012. I’m very excited for 2013!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
