I follow a simple five-minute morning routine every day. It takes only a few minutes, but these small tasks set a positive tone for my entire day. When I skip any step, I notice I feel behind before I even start.
Beyond this quick routine I also take a shower, enjoy some quiet time, and have breakfast, but these are the short household rituals that start my day:

MINUTE ONE:
Make the bed.
MINUTE TWO:
Open the shades.
MINUTE THREE:
Turn off the porch lights.

MINUTES FOUR AND FIVE:
Unload the dishwasher.
I do this nearly every morning, almost every day of the year.
Sticking to these simple actions helps me mark the official start of my day. With the bed made, natural light flowing in, porch lights off and the dishwasher emptied, the house feels orderly and I find it easier to focus and be productive for the rest of the day.
What is your five-minute morning “start the day” routine? If you don’t have one, today is a great day to begin a new habit that can simplify your mornings and lift your mood.
This idea was shared previously on The Inspired Room and was the perfect nudge to get back into a steady routine after the holidays.
