My house is a little chaotic right now. I feel scattered and a bit un-domestic — not at all Martha-like. I’m caught between lazy summer days and the busy back-to-school routine, but I’m determined to summon some fall inspiration. I may not have pumpkin muffins baking or a wreath on the door yet, but I’m starting to prepare for the season anyway. I’m glad you’ve stopped by to join me.
Creating a beautiful home is more about your attitude and state of mind than about perfection. I’m a dreamer and a realist at the same time, and when those two sides meet, life can feel wonderful. You can imagine your home smelling, looking, and feeling like fall even before every detail is in place. The rest will follow in time.
Last year I shared a post called “20 Little Things to Love About Autumn.” If you’re looking for a place to start or need a little nudge to get excited about the season, read that list and then write your own. Jot down twenty small things you love about autumn and share them — either by linking your post to our Fall Nesting party or by leaving a few favorites in the comments below.
To me, fall is about nurturing.
My home may not belong on the cover of a magazine (certainly not today!), but if I can create a feeling of fall — a sense that our home is a safe, nurturing place to rest and be renewed — then I’m content. Fall, to me, is about warmth and the comfort of being sheltered with family and friends when life gets stormy.
If you need ideas, I’ve put together a Fall Nesting Tips series and other fall inspiration that can help you get started and set the tone for the season.

What does fall mean to you?
All week long you can link to any post that inspires fall living. Maybe you have a favorite fall craft, a decorating idea, a photograph that captures the season, or a scent that instantly says autumn. When you link up, please link only to a Fall Nesting-related post and be kind enough to include a link back. If you don’t have a blog, feel free to share your ideas in the comments — everyone is welcome.
THE HOMEGOODS SHOPPING SPREE GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED!
If you entered to win one of three $200 HomeGoods shopping sprees, you could do so by linking a post to the Fall Nesting link-up that shows a room you’d like to refresh and explains how a HomeGoods gift card could help. If you don’t have a blog, you could email your entry with “HOMEGOODS ENTRY” in the subject line so it doesn’t get lost.
This post and the links today are all about Fall Nesting — preparing to enjoy a season that always seems too short. Let’s make the most of it and get fall started!
