DIY Holiday Wipe-Off Message Plate Guide

I was searching for something tall to place on my buffet—something shorter than my lamp but taller than the pitcher (which I might add greenery to later). I remembered the easel that came with my DaySpring message board, which I never used because I hung the board on the wall instead.

But what to put on the easel?

In a moment when I needed a quick solution, I grabbed one of my inexpensive holiday chargers—likely plastic or lightweight metal—and set it on the easel.

I wished for a vinyl cling with a holiday word—it would have been perfect—but I didn’t have one on hand. Instead I remembered my chalkboard pens and wondered if they would work on the charger. They did. The pen wrote smoothly and the message wiped off easily when I wanted a new one, making it a reusable, fuss-free option.

The vinyl cling would be a lovely, polished touch, but a chalk pen is fast, inexpensive, and ideal when you need a last-minute solution. This idea is similar in effect to chalkboard chargers, but without the need to paint anything.

I really like these chalk pens. They may not work on every surface, but they performed well on this charger—and since the charger was inexpensive, there was no worry if it didn’t work out.

Total cost: Free (if you already have a chalk pen and a plate).
Total stress: None.
