My daughters and I love visiting the Street of Dreams in Portland—it’s an end-of-summer tradition for us. I grew up going with my family and we’ve continued the ritual over the years. This time my son and nephew joined us, which made the day extra fun.
We go to dream a little — the homes on the tour live up to the name. Even though my own house is more modest, I always find elements that inspire me and that I can adapt to everyday living.
I’m especially drawn to homes that feel like real family spaces, even when they’re large. This particular house felt warm and lived-in while still showing off a modern farmhouse aesthetic. Many of its details could work in different homes if you want to adapt the look to your own style.
The house has several similarities to another favorite I toured last year, a coastal farmhouse. I did a recap of that home previously, which included some sources for similar items. The home featured here was built as the owners’ private residence on the same property where they had raised their four boys in a smaller house. That original house became the guest house; you’ll see images of it below.
I don’t have a full list of material sources, but the builder and project are listed on the Street of Dreams site for those who want more details. I took many photos during the tour and have shared a selection here—there may be an occasional image from a different room or home mixed in, and I plan to share more in a follow-up post. Regardless, I hope the images spark ideas and inspiration for your own home.
This selection represents only a portion of the photographs I took. I’ll share additional rooms and details in a part two soon. In the meantime, enjoy this tour and the design ideas it offers.
We’re preparing a few fall nesting posts for next week—thank you for your comments and messages. I hope these photos give you fresh ideas for bringing farmhouse warmth and modern comfort into your own spaces.
