Hey friends! Today voting opens for the Dash & Albert rug design competition on Annie Selke’s Instagram. If you don’t have an account yet, you can sign up and vote from a computer—just visit Annie Selke’s Instagram to see the entries.
Designing rugs with my daughters turned out to be more challenging than we expected, but also a lot of fun once the ideas started flowing. As we worked, a clear theme emerged: the rugs we love most are classic patterns with a modern twist. That became the guiding idea for all three designs we submitted.
Ten rugs from the Annie Selke competition will be selected for production and sale through Dash & Albert next year. It would be incredibly exciting to have one of our designs chosen, and I’d be so grateful for your vote. You can vote for any or all of our rugs by visiting each design’s Instagram post directly.
Here are my three rug designs

- Starburst – A small-scale, versatile pattern that works well in nearly any room. We created a simple, fresh motif using a repeated starburst shape that reads pleasantly from a distance and pairs easily with other patterns. Instead of a traditional fringe or no border, we included a small flat rope fringe for a subtle, distinctive finish.

- Playful Pattern – A cheerful update on a traditional rug style. I can imagine this design in a neutral gray-and-white palette or in soft colors like mint or blue. Dash & Albert offer beautiful colorways, and this pattern adapts well to many different tones. See some of our color variations further down the post.

- Stripes + Cross – One of my favorites, because I love striped rugs. This design keeps the classic striped look but adds a simple cross-band trim at the ends for a unique, tailored touch. Scroll down to see alternate color options for this rug, too.
Dash & Albert rugs have been a longtime favorite of mine. I enjoy visiting local home shops to see their collections in person. Many of their rugs use a soft indoor/outdoor flat weave that’s easy to maintain and durable enough to last for years. I own several Dash & Albert rugs and find them well suited to a variety of rooms and styles.
Below we included some color ideas for each of these designs to show how they might look in different palettes.
If you can hop over to Annie Selke’s Instagram to vote, I’d really appreciate your support. It would be an honor to have one of my rug designs produced by Dash & Albert. You’ll also enjoy browsing the many other lovely entries.
Thank you, sweet friends. Have a great day!
