Living in a Shingled Martha’s Vineyard House: If I Lived Here

Edgartown House on Marthas Vineyard - New England Home

If I Lived Here - The Inspired Room blog

I recently discovered a charming coastal house in Edgartown on Martha’s Vineyard featured in New England Home. Though I’m happily settled in the Pacific Northwest and unlikely to move, I can easily imagine being content on the island. There’s a distinct appeal to that New England coastal aesthetic—especially the gray-shingled homes that I’m always drawn to.

I haven’t had the chance to visit Martha’s Vineyard yet, despite traveling to several places on the East Coast. It’s high on my list, though—so many of the homes I admire online are located there, or on Nantucket and Cape Cod, and that gives me the sense that the area would suit me perfectly. The classic shingled houses, the relaxed coastal vibe, and the timeless interiors are irresistible.

Even if I never own a summer house there or live in a shingled cottage on the island, I enjoy imagining what life might be like in such a setting. Touring homes like this one is an easy way to daydream—visualizing the light-filled rooms, the comfortable living spaces, and the thoughtful details that make coastal homes so inviting.

Have you visited Martha’s Vineyard or lived in that region? It’s always interesting to hear firsthand impressions from people who know the area well.
